If you’re looking for a full-sized charcoal grill that has all the features you’ll ever need for outdoor cooking, then you’ll want one of two models in the Weber Performer series – the Weber Performer Premium and the Weber Performer Deluxe. We all know that when it comes to charcoal grills, nothing beats a Weber. All their grills are made of top quality materials, solidly constructed, and come with the company’s guarantee. But these two are at the top of the charcoal food chain, so to speak. This means that you won’t go wrong choosing either one. That being said, these babies cost quite a bit. In other words, it’s best to figure out which one suits your needs to a T before you put down some cash. So, what do these two models have to offer and what makes them different from each other?

These two models feature are 22.5-inch kettles that have been fit into a cart, unlike the classic Weber kettle. The cart comes with a painted metal work surface with 3 tool holders. Having a built-in grill table sure does make prepping your food easy. They also come with a porcelain-enameled lid and bowl, a rust-proof aluminum lid, a weather-proof handle and heat shield, and a tuck-away lid holder. All of that means that you get excellent heat retention and distribution as well as place to hang your lid while you’re flipping burgers.

The grills also have a triple-plated hinged Gourmet Barbecue System cooking grate that can be replaced with 8 different inserts for more versatile cooking. The stainless steel One-Touch Cleaning System and ash catcher makes cleanup a breeze. There’s a weather-proof CharBin for storing briquettes which makes them easier to access if you need to refuel. Of course, you can opt to use this as a trash can if need be. There’s even a removable backlit LCD timer which is a handy device to keep you on track when you’re cooking different foods. Other similar features include the lid thermometer, all weather wheels, and 2 Weber Char-Baskets Fuel Holders.

So, what’s the difference between the two then? Well, the main difference between the two is the electronic gas ignition. There’s a switch that is located behind the removable backlit LCD cook timer that allows you to light up your briquettes without using a match. There’s a propane bottle to fuel the ignition. This ignition system is more of a convenience really. Of course, if you constantly have difficulty lighting up your charcoal, then this feature becomes a true necessity. Aside from the ignition system, the Deluxe also comes with the Weber Gourmet BBQ System Sear grate. This is a porcelain-enameled cast iron sear grate that produced professional sear markings while locking in all the juice and flavor of the meat. These two additional features cost an extra $40. The question then is, is it worth the extra money? In our opinion, it’s a big fat yes.
